IUSY (the International Union of Socialist Youth) highly welcomes the ceasefire between Hamas and Israel and strongly calls for an immediate and lasting end to all violence from both sides. History in the Middle East as well as everywhere else has shown that violence only creates more violence, hatred and suffering. This always affects most heavily the ones who are most vulnerable. We believe that negotiations are the only way to solve this dispute and to fulfill the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people while at the same time ensuring the peaceful existence of the state of Israel.
In order to achieve this we urge all actors involved in Israel and Palestine to refrain from violence of all kind, fulfill their obligations under international law and to start a true, renewed dialogue on the way forward! Also we call upon the international community to do all in their power to support and facilitate this process. The only solution to the current situation can be a peaceful one!
The most urgent and essential requirement for this peaceful solution is the establishment and international recognition of a free and sovereign Palestinian state in the borders of 1967. This has to be done now! One step to achieve this is the recognition of Palestine at the United Nations. IUSY calls upon all countries to support the Palestinian bid at the United Nations and to grant the Palestinian people the same rights that all UN member countries possess!
IUSY strongly supports that all Palestinians have the inalienable right to live in peace and freedom in their own independent state. We therefore call upon the government of Israel to stop the oppression of Palestinians in the occupied territories, to immediately stop and start reversing the settlement policy in the West Bank, to withdraw from all Palestinian territories, to release all Palestinian political prisoners and to enable full sovereign democratic, economic and social development in all of Palestine! At the same time we strongly support the desire of the Israeli population to live in peace and security from rockets or terrorist attacks. We call upon all Palestinian organizations and political parties who still believe in armed struggle to lay down their weapons and follow a way of peaceful resistance!
IUSY in the past, now and in the future stands side by side in solidarity with all progressive actors in the region who promote peaceful co-existence, security, freedom and social and economic equality!
